Sweetgrass Arts and Music Society presents a vibrant celebration of Indigenous creativity, culture, and community. This exhibition brings together diverse Indigenous artists showcasing works that reflect story, land, tradition, and contemporary expression!

Groove Noir is a photography exhibition exploring live music on Salt Spring Island in 2025 and 2026. Set in small, intimate venues, the work captures the close relationship between performer and audience, where subtle gestures, expressions, and moments of reflection can be seen and felt. Inspired by the atmosphere of Film Noir, the exhibition uses shadow and limited light as part of the composition. Musicians emerge from darkness, briefly suspended in moments of concentration, quiet satisfaction, and presence. Rather than documenting the full room, Groove Noir focuses on what often remains after a performance: a look, a hand on an instrument, a feeling shared between artist and audience. Together, these images reflect the emotional intensity of Salt Spring’s music scene and the familiar,

A six-day classical yoga immersion and continuing education training rooted in Himalayan traditions. The program focuses on Raja Yoga accessed through breath work, offering a living transmission of yogic practice at the Salt Spring Centre of Yoga.

Meditation leader Peter Levitt has practiced meditation for more than fifty years. As a fully authorized Zen teacher, he founded and led the Salt Spring Zen Circle until his retirement in 2023. He is the author of twenty books of poetry and prose, including translations from Japanese, Chinese, and Spanish. He developed this program with the hope that learning the general basics of meditation will bring greater calm, ease, enjoyment and understanding to fellow islanders. Each week’s session will include instruction, meditation, questions & answers, and the sharing of tea. Participants will be sitting in chairs and will be able to continue this practice at home. Beginning and experienced participants are welcome to join.

United by a focus on process and material, driven by the challenges of the ephemeral, mysterious, precarious and elusive, four Saltspring-based artists come together in Stratum, an exhibition of two-dimensional works. Stratum is layers, depth, building up and excavating down. It is smooth and textured wax, opaque and translucent, charcoal set down thick as velvet, graphite lines that shine like silver, excavations and eruptions in plaster, subtle but surprising landscapes that are structure, and gauzelike curtains over worlds that disappear and reappear. Matchett, González Mascaró, Crawford, and Bolliger make work that highlights the tension between surface and depth, structure and chaos, comfort and unease. StoryWalk® is a self-guided supported-activity that allows children and adults to enjoy reading and outdoor activity at the same time. Every weekend, laminated pages from a children’s book is attached to signs, These signs are then sequentially installed from the front of the Library, down the street, then though Mouat Park toward the Rainbow Road Pool. As you stroll down the trail, a story unfolds. StoryWalks® have been installed in 50 states and 13 countries including, Germany, Canada, England, Bermuda, Russia, Malaysia, Pakistan and South Korea! ​ StoryWalk® was created by Anne Ferguson of Montpelier, VT and is a registered service mark owned by Ms. Ferguson. ONE DAY ONLY! STAINED GLASS SHOW Lorne Tippett is a local artist who specializes in stained glass. He grew up in picturesque eastern Canada and has been living on the west coast of B.C. since the mid 1990’s. He is an avid sea kayaker exploring our rugged shores which are an inspiration for many of his creations. Lorne’s approach to stained glass captures the essence of the outdoors. He creates designs that bring nature, rugged and delicate, into the home environment. Lorne’s stained glass apprentice, Monika Mayr, is a long time Salt Spring islander and a retired teacher. She has been working in glass off and on for many years. An apprenticeship follows a historical way of learning and developing one’s skills with hands on training. She was an immense help in making this show come to life

BCSPCA provides one-on-one dog sitting during Saturday Market hours. Cost is $20 per hour (direct donation to BCSPCA), with a limit of one hour per dog. Available Saturdays May 9 through September 5, 2026, 9am-3pm (last dog accepted at 2pm).
